GMP Methodology v1
How Digital Arthalaya cross-checks, contextualizes, and publishes indicative Grey Market Premium information with clear sourcing and risk disclosures.
1. Purpose & Guiding Principle
Grey Market Premium (GMP) is an unofficial, unregulated over-the-counter (OTC) indicator of pre-listing market sentiment. It is not governed by SEBI, NSE, or BSE, nor is it a legal contract for trading.
At Digital Arthalaya, our goal is to publish GMP information with clear sourcing, timestamps, limitations, and transparent methodology.
Guiding Principle: "Do not manufacture certainty where the underlying market is unofficial and uncertain." We never copy a single website's quote blindly, invent figures, or present grey market rumors as guaranteed listing profits.
2. Definition & Mathematical Standard
GMP represents the observed incremental amount quoted informally relative to the official IPO upper price band:
GMP as % of Upper Price Band = (Observed GMP / Upper Price Band) × 100
Terminology Rule: Digital Arthalaya strictly uses the label "Indicative Price Based on GMP" rather than "Expected Listing Price" or "Target Price", and "GMP as % of Upper Price Band" rather than "Guaranteed Return". This calculation is an arithmetic illustration based on unofficial observations, not a financial projection.
3. Sourcing Hierarchy & Verification
To provide reliable context and avoid single-source reliance, we distinguish between public market references and official IPO data:
- Level A — Public GMP Reference Sources: Indicative GMP figures may be cross-checked across multiple identifiable publicly available GMP reference sources.
- Level B — Cross-Verification: When multiple public GMP references are available, Digital Arthalaya compares their reported values, timestamps, and material differences. If the reported values differ significantly, we may display an observed range or indicate conflicting data rather than presenting an artificially precise figure.
- Level C — Official IPO Anchor Data: Official IPO details such as company name, issue dates, price band, lot size, issue size, and listing date are verified using relevant offer documents, NSE/BSE public issue information, company announcements, registrar information, or other appropriate official sources.
4. Cross-Check & Difference Handling
When multiple sources report different GMP figures, Digital Arthalaya compares their values and timestamps. Material differences are disclosed rather than hidden.
When different public references show differing numbers (e.g. ₹44 vs ₹48), we present an observed range alongside indicative figures to reflect actual market dispersion honestly.
Materially different observations should be reviewed for timestamp differences, source freshness, and recent IPO developments before publication.
5. GMP Data Confidence Framework
Our data confidence framework evaluates how consistent and sufficiently cross-checked the available GMP references are. It does not reflect IPO quality, listing probability, expected returns, investment safety, or predictive accuracy.
Multiple recent sources report closely similar GMP values with aligned timestamps.
Multiple sources exist but moderate differences or slight timestamp variations are present.
Limited, stale, or materially conflicting reference data is available. Displayed with explicit caution.
6. Transparent Public Display Standard
Instead of displaying an isolated number, Digital Arthalaya GMP modules present contextual datasets with clear status indicators:
Illustrative values shown for methodology explanation only.
7. Edge Cases & Post-Listing Protocol
- Negative GMP: Never hidden. Reported honestly as a discount to the upper price band with objective sentiment context.
- Zero GMP (₹0): Denotes an absence of observable premium, never to be conflated with a guaranteed flat listing.
- No Reliable Data: Displayed explicitly as "GMP data not sufficiently verified" or "GMP: Not Available". We never invent arbitrary numbers to fill database gaps.
- Post-Listing Closure: Once the shares are officially listed, Digital Arthalaya stops treating GMP as a relevant pre-listing indicator and uses official exchange prices for post-listing information.
8. Important GMP Disclaimer
Important GMP Disclaimer: Grey Market Premium (GMP) is an unofficial and unregulated market indicator. GMP may change rapidly and does not guarantee an IPO's listing price or investment returns. Digital Arthalaya presents GMP-related information only for educational and informational purposes. Readers should consider official offer documents, risk factors, and their own financial circumstances before making investment decisions.
